How to read trading hours

Understanding time zones, trading sessions (pre-market, regular, after-hours), and the opening hours of individual exchanges enables you to respond to market movements as they happen.

Time zone: All times here are shown in server time (GMT+3) and are subject to Daylight Saving Time (DST).

Our server time is set to GMT+3 during US daylight saving time (March to November) and shifts to GMT+2 during US standard time (November to March). This ensures that daily candles close in line with the New York trading day.

Please adjust to your local time when trading.

US stock market sessions (GMT+3)

Pre-market session (11:00 – 16:30)

Allows trading before the main session. Lower volume and higher volatility are common.

Regular trading hours (16:30 – 23:00)

The most liquid market session with heightened trading activity.

After-hours session (23:00 – 03:00)

Allows trading after the market closes so you can react to earnings reports or major news.

Holidays

  • Some exchanges close on designated holidays or operate on adjusted hours with early market closures or breaks. Expect lower liquidity and potentially wider spreads.
  • While the margin FX market operates 24/5, trading for certain currency pairs might be unavailable during major holidays or due to low liquidity.

Always check our holiday trading schedule below for more details.

FAQs

DST stands for daylight saving time. During DST, clocks are set forward by one hour in some regions. This can shift local trading hours for markets. Our server shifts to GMT+3 during US daylight saving time (summer) and stays at GMT+2 in winter. This keeps daily candles and trading sessions aligned with the New York market. Depending on your local time, session times may appear 1 hour earlier or later, but your trades, stops, and charts remain consistent.

Pepperstone shows all trading hours based on the server time, which is GMT+2 in winter (US standard time) and GMT+3 in summer (US daylight saving time). This ensures that daily candles, market opens, and closes stay aligned with the underlying markets.

There is no right or wrong time or even a preferred trading session when it comes to trading margin FX or any other financial products. It's important to consider factors such as volatility, favourable trading conditions, tighter spreads, market sentiment, and supply and demand when trading.
