Apple Q4 2026 Earnings Preview: Rising Memory Costs Test Margins — Can Premium Products Support the Share Price?

Apple is set to report its fiscal Q4 2026 earnings, with growth across key financial metrics expected to slow from the previous quarter and rising memory prices potentially weighing on gross margins. The key questions are whether the company can withstand cost pressures, whether new products have sufficient growth potential, and whether management can outline a clearer growth path for its AI strategy.

Apple (AAPL) will report its fiscal Q4 2026 earnings after the US market closes on November 2. John Ternus will then host his first quarterly earnings call since officially taking over as CEO in September.

The market expects growth across Apple's key financial metrics to slow markedly from the previous quarter.

Revenue is forecast to reach approximately $113.4 billion, up 10.7% year on year. Gross margin is expected to fall from 50.06% to around 47.57%, while operating income growth could slow from double digits last quarter to 7.5%.

This suggests that while Apple is expected to maintain revenue growth, profit growth could slow further, making cost pressures a key focus of this earnings release.

Meanwhile, demand for the latest iPhone models has been mixed since their launch. Whether new products can stimulate upgrade demand, and how management plans to develop the next phase of Apple Intelligence, will be important factors shaping future growth expectations.

Consistent Earnings Beats Raise the Bar as Price Targets Lag Behind the Share Price

Apple has a strong track record of delivering solid earnings. Bloomberg data shows that revenue, adjusted EPS and adjusted net income have all exceeded market expectations for eight consecutive quarters, while EBITDA has beaten consensus estimates in six of those quarters. Analysts also remain broadly optimistic.

Meanwhile, Apple trades at around 37.04 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, despite a long-term EPS growth forecast of just 13.51%.

Taken together, Apple's consistent earnings beats, positive analyst sentiment, the gap between its valuation and growth expectations, and the stock's recent record high all suggest that a considerable amount of optimism may already be priced in.

Options are pricing in a 3.47% one-day move around this earnings release, above the historical average, indicating that traders expect a larger share price reaction than usual. If gross margins or forward guidance disappoint, the stock could face significant profit-taking pressure.

Is iPhone Pricing Strategy Starting to Face Resistance?

Demand for the latest iPhone models could be one of the most important indicators to watch in this earnings release.

With global memory chip costs continuing to climb, Apple's decision to raise the starting prices of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max compared with their predecessors may help ease some margin pressure. However, whether the company can successfully pass higher costs on to consumers remains uncertain.

There have also been reports that Apple has asked some suppliers to cut component orders for the iPhone 18 Pro series. In China, delivery lead times for the iPhone 18 Pro have shortened noticeably, while some e-commerce platforms have begun offering discounts, pointing to signs of softening demand. By contrast, the iPhone Duo has received an enthusiastic market response.

Traders will be watching closely to determine whether slower iPhone 18 Pro orders signal weakness in the broader upgrade cycle, or whether some consumers are shifting towards the more differentiated Duo.

However, this earnings report only covers the quarter ended in September. Management's outlook for pre-orders, supply constraints and the year-end holiday shopping season could therefore have a direct impact on expectations for the next two quarters.

Rising Memory Costs Squeeze Profits as Pricing Power Faces a Test

Apple's overall gross margin reached 50.1% last quarter, but approximately two percentage points came from a one-off benefit from tariff refunds. Excluding this effect, underlying profitability was not as strong as the headline figure suggested.

Cost pressures are becoming more direct this quarter. The continued expansion of AI data centres is absorbing memory chip capacity, driving up DRAM and NAND prices. Apple's own expansion of AI features could also increase the memory requirements of its devices.

This leaves the company facing a difficult trade-off: maintaining higher prices could help protect per-unit profits but weigh on sales volumes, while discounting to stimulate demand may prevent revenue growth from translating into stronger profitability.

Services could provide an important buffer. The segment delivered a gross margin of 75.6% last quarter, well above that of Apple's hardware products. If Services revenue continues to grow steadily, it could help offset some of the pressure from higher component costs on overall margins.

Beyond whether this quarter's gross margin meets guidance, traders will therefore be paying closer attention to management's assessment of memory chip prices, product mix and promotional pressures over the coming quarters.

A New CEO Takes the Helm: What Does Apple Need From Its AI Strategy?

For John Ternus, his first earnings call will also be an opportunity to outline Apple's future direction to investors.

Over the past few years, Apple has consistently highlighted the advantages of integrating hardware, software and services. But as generative AI becomes more widespread, the market is increasingly questioning whether these strengths can translate into new consumer demand.

Apple's business model differs from that of the cloud computing giants. It does not need to rely on selling AI computing capacity to drive growth. Instead, it needs to convince consumers that the next generation of Siri, Apple Intelligence and deeper device integration can meaningfully improve the user experience and give them a compelling reason to upgrade their hardware.

In China, the range of Apple Intelligence features available, the actual user experience and the rollout timetable could also influence Apple's appeal in the premium smartphone market.

Technical Outlook: Bulls and Bears Face a Decision Near Record Highs

On the daily chart, Apple shares have continued to climb since the previous earnings season, recently reaching a fresh record high of $351.73 before pulling back slightly.

Preview

If earnings remain solid and management strikes an upbeat tone on year-end demand and margins, the stock could challenge this level again.

Conversely, if iPhone sales guidance disappoints or cost pressures exceed expectations, shares could break below $340 and test the previous trading area around $328–$332. If the pullback deepens, $317.20 could provide support.

Can Apple's Premium Strategy Continue to Deliver?

Apple's quarterly financial results may hold few major surprises, but uncertainty remains around the year-end sales outlook. Rising memory chip costs are making it increasingly difficult for the company to maintain elevated margins. Whether Apple can continue to absorb these costs through product upgrades and growth in Services revenue will directly influence earnings expectations.

For a company trading at more than 37 times forward earnings, with its shares approaching record highs, the market is looking for a clearer answer: Can Apple keep raising prices while still convincing consumers to pay a premium?
