Creating a price alert (Webtrader)

You can create a price alert from a watchlist, orders, positions, chart or alerts panel. Each price alert can have up to five conditions, and you can specify whether the alarm should be triggered if any one condition, or all conditions, are met.

Note: In this procedure, the word ‘click’ refers to either a click or a tap.

Entry point

Watchlist, positions, orders

1. Right-click (or press and hold) on the instrument of interest and select Create Alert from the menu that appears.

2. Set the trigger conditions.

Chart

1. Right-click (or press and hold) on the chart and select Alert from the menu that appears.

Tip: If you move the cursor up or down a chart, the price indicated by the position of the cursor at any time is highlighted on the price axis. When you right-click (or press and hold) and select Alert, the alert price defaults to whatever price was highlighted at the time. However, you can override the value.

2. Set the trigger conditions.

Alerts panel

1. Click Tools on the main menu bar and select Alerts from the menu that appears. The Alerts panel is displayed:

2. Click Create Alert.

Tip: You can base a new alert by copying an existing alert (active or triggered). Right-click (or press and hold) on the alert you want to copy and select Copy from the menu that appears.

3. Set the trigger conditions.

Set the trigger conditions

The Create Alert window should now be displayed. It will either be blank (as shown below) or have the price details of the alert you copied or the price selected from a chart:

  1. If you are creating more than one trigger condition and want all trigger conditions to be met before the alert is triggered, select All conditions from the Alert on menu.

  2. If the Symbol field is empty or incorrect, search for the instrument you want to create the alert for.

  3. In the first field to the right of the symbol, select whether it is a bid or ask price that will trigger the alert.

  4. In the second field to the right of the symbol, select whether the alert is to be triggered when the price is at or above, at, below or at and below the trigger price you specify.

  5. In the final field to the right of the symbol, enter the price that will trigger the alert.

  6. To add another condition, click + Add Condition and repeat from step 3 for the new condition.

  7. To set an expiry date for the alert, click on the EXPIRATION slider and enter a date and time.

  8. Optionally enter a description of the alert.

  9. Click Create. The new alert appears on the Active Alerts tab of the Alerts pane, with the status Active:
